There is public, confidential, more confidential, and very confidential or most confidential. So when Jesus is preaching in public like this, he is preaching on the public level; But he hints here again and again that there is another level called confidential: “That God sees in secret and rewards in secret.” That means confidential.

So when we are doing devotional service, we have a direct relationship with God and He can directly supply all our needs. That’s the special quality of devotional service. So now he finishes up with some warnings. First of all he says: “Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured unto you.”
