Sanskrit is the Mother Tongue of all the important languages on Earth. Because Sanskrit is completely spiritual, it is a perfect language and is therefore very glorious. It is the practice of the brāhmaṇas conversant with the science of transcendental sound vibration to pronounce a Vedic mantra in the right accent. When the combination of the svara (Vedic intervals), matra (the poetic meter) and the Sanskrit text is chanted with the right pronunciation, it will directly reveal the Absolute Truth to the student of the Esoteric Teaching. Sir Monier Monier-Williams (1819–1899) studied, documented and taught Asian languages in England. The Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary is the best-known and most authoritative Sanskrit dictionary published in English. With more than 16,000 entries, it is the international scholarly standard.
