Secret Teachings of JesusSession 2 Part 2Babaji: One of the things that can distract us from our spiritual life are the problems that occur in the material life existence. So last week we were talking about a problem. Can we talk about your problem again? Yes, OK. So we start out with a problem. What is the problem? A problem has three factors; you, your desire and time. Time is past, your desires are present, and time is in the future. In most problems you have a desire, you are in the present, and your desire is in the future. That’s one kind of problem. The other kind of problem is when we had something that we wanted, and we lost it. So in this problem, we are in the present and our desire is in the past. One more kind of problem: you’re in the present, and you have something that you do not desire, also in the present. So there are three kinds of problems: I want something I don’t have, I had something and I lost it, or I have something I don’t want. In each case there are three factors: the self, desire, and time. OK, everyone follow that? So now let’s analyze your problem in these terms. The problem was an economic problem. What kind of problem is that? You want something and you don’t have it, right? Audience: I have something I don’t desire. Babaji: Oh, both kinds, all three kinds. [laugh] I had some money and I lost it, I want more money, and I am poor and I don’t like that. So all problems fall into these three categories. So remember last week we talked about what Einstein said about problems: “You cannot solve a problem in the same consciousness as when you created it.” So what are our three factors? Self, the desire, and time. Right? So let’s look at the economic problem in those terms. What is the problem? My self: no money; the desire is: more money; and the time is what? I don’t have money; I desire more money in the future. OK, that’s a very common problem. Now, let’s look at the solutions. The solution is what? To start some business. Isn’t it? OK, start business, and where is that? It’s in the future, right? It might be in the present, like starting now, but the result is in the future. Maybe I have to start doing something now to get to there. So my question is: “Is this really the solution?” Audience: No. Babaji: Why not? Audience: Because it does not solve the problem in the present. Babaji: Very good, can everybody see that? It’s like whenever I say “I want something” that means I am in the present, and what I want is in the future. So I am separating myself from what I want. This is the mechanism of desire in general: “I want this other thing.” Why? Because our identity is that “I am human,” my sense of identity means I’m thinking “I’m this body,” and because this body is material, I’m stuck in the present. I can’t go into the past, I can’t go into the future; I’m stuck right here. That’s a limiting thought, a limiting conception, it’s a limited consciousness. Because of our limited consciousness, anything I do to solve my problem, it’s just going to create more similar problems. For example, let’s say you start some business, and let’s say it’s successful. So in the future, you have lots of money. Then what? The partner tries to cheat you, right? The government wants the taxes. There is some competition. Right? There are more problems, different problems, but they are still based on the same three factors. And the same limiting factor is our consciousness. Because we’re identified with this body, we’re stuck in time, and we can’t get to the past and we can’t get to the future. So let’s just imagine for a moment, what would be like if we were not stuck in time? Now, let’s say I am in the present, and I want something. I can go there and have it. Alright, or if I have some desire in the past, and lost something, I can go there. Audience: How? Babaji: We’ll get to that. Or let’s say I am in the present, and I have something I don’t desire, I can go to the past or future and get away from it. You see? If my consciousness is not stuck in time, then I can solve any problem, any problem at all. So what kind of consciousness is not stuck in time? Audience: The spiritual. Babaji: Spiritual. Why? Audience: Because it’s not material. Babaji: It’s not material, but what does that mean? Audience: Because it’s part of everything, and it’s God. Babaji: OK, that’s close. Remember last time we talked a little bit about the soul and the nature of the soul? So the soul is spiritual, we know that, but what is the quality of spiritual existence? Immortal, unlimited, because it is eternal. Eternal means no beginning and no end, no birth and no death, no time. Eternity is beyond time. Let me give you an example, you know about dimensions? If I have a line, how many dimensions is that? Oh, we need to go back to geometry. How many dimensions is a line? How many lines does it take to define a line? How long is this line? One number describes the length of the line. Let’s call it x. One number, because it’s the length of the line, it’s the only quality that a line has its length. Only one quality, only one number, only one dimension. Dimension is, if I say what the dimensions of this room are, maybe fifteen feet by twenty-five by eight feet. These are dimensions, three dimensions. But if I ask “What is the dimension of the line?” It’s only one number, one dimension. Now what about a plane, how many numbers do I need to give the dimensions of the plane? Two, right; one is x and one is y. When I say “What are the dimensions of the tabletop?” Right, one meter by one meter, whatever. Two numbers, two dimensions. Now, what about a cube? Audience: Three dimensions. Babaji: Exactly, three dimensions, three numbers to specify our cube. Now what about this cube? If it was created at a certain date, then at a certain time, I destroy it. Now I have a fourth number. Right? Time is a fourth dimension. The fourth is none of the three dimensions of the cube; it’s completely different from it. Now, what about time? It contains past, present, and future. So time has three dimensions. To completely specify time, you have to give three numbers. How long in the past, when is now, and how long in the future. What is the present time now, how long ago did I create this, and how much longer before I destroy it, or it goes away by natural law. So time has three dimensions, space has three dimensions. Now, what? What’s beyond time? Eternity! Now, by analogy, how many dimensions does eternity have? Audience: Zero. Infinite. Babaji: Well, these are two extremes. How many dimensions does the space have? Audience: Three! Babaji: Three, and how many dimensions does time have? Audience: Three! Babaji: Three, and how many dimensions does eternity have? Well, we get all kinds of answers, how about three, three. (Eternal existence, eternal knowledge, and eternal bliss) Audience: It’s all the same. Babaji: It’s not at all the same, because everything in the material world is temporal, that’s why we need three numbers to describe time. The time dimension of an object has three numbers—existence in the past, present date, and its existence in the future—because it’s temporal. But everything in the spiritual world is eternal. So everything in eternity is beyond time. So it has to be characterized differently. Audience: So that means that it is always in the present? Babaji: In the spiritual world, there is no past and future. There is only present, but that present embraces eternity, all past, all present, all future. It’s a higher dimension. |
