Session 2 Part 1

Babaji: ... It creates a beautiful atmosphere. This chanting is the real point of this seminar. If you don’t remember anything else, remember this mantra and chant it everyday. And then you’ll make wonderful spiritual advancement, and ultimately you will attain love of God. So that’s the real benefit of all spiritual practices.

Knowledge, mystical powers, getting what you want in the material world—these are all insignificant, because at the end at the day, even if we have so much knowledge, if we’re not happy, then what’s the point? By the way, you noticed, we’re taping everything, and at the end of the course you can order the videos, and you’ll get the complete videos, eight hours of DVDs. That way you don’t have to worry so much about taking notes. We’ll try to make some very reasonable offer.

So everyone has been chanting during the week? I see lots of smiles; smiling faces. So anybody have experiences in chanting that they like to share?

Audience1: On Sunday night I had a dream which was very aggressive, I was very surprised. Then on Monday I chanted again, and I started to feel quiet light in my head. Then again I had a terrible dreaming, which was very aggressive. And on Tuesday I didn’t chant, and on Wednesday I did a meditation with frequencies, and then I went to a Judo class, and on the final meditation I felt a vibration, and then again I chanted at night and I slept very well. Thursday I chanted, and I felt my arms falling asleep, and then on Friday I chanted again, I did an experiment, I mixed up the theta frequencies, and it was wonderful, a lot of light, and when I was finished chanting I felt my fingers vibrating, and now I have the opportunity to do programming for this. This morning I chanted and felt like an opening, and felt a lot of white light. Also there was a very peaceful place, and then it went black, like black space, and suddenly I started perceiving orange energy. That was my experience.

Babaji: Thank you.

Audience2: The night is when I try to chant, sometimes I don’t finish, but I go somewhere and I don’t know where. I sleep very well after that. I had diarrhea and I don’t know if it had something to do with it.

Babaji: Can I comment?

Audience2: Yes.

Babaji: In both cases, the affect of the Holy Name is purifying. Purification can take place on physical, emotional, mental, intellectual, and spiritual levels. Many times you’ll experience karma through a dream; something that would happen in real life happens in a dream instead. So the chanter of the holy name is protected from many kinds of dangers and suffering. And by regular chanting, gradually our whole body, mind, and spirit is purified. This chanting is the most powerful process for changing consciousness.

We want to take our consciousness out of the material world, and by concentrating on the sound of the holy name transfer our consciousness to the spiritual world. So everything that we can get from other processes, by working in the material world, by cultivation of knowledge, by material enjoyment, by different kind of mystic yoga, all these things we can get from the holy name. There is no need for complex or difficult spiritual processes, no need for gathering lots of knowledge, simply devotion to the holy name will give everything.

Audience3: My experience is completely different. I chant at 5 am or 6 am. When I start the day I chant, and when I chant I hear the birds, and I connect with their singing, and become very happy, contact happiness. My experience is that suddenly I start to cry because of happiness, my heart pounds and I feel like a little girl, which makes me want to jump. This is something beautiful, when I’m finished, then I am crying because of happiness, and I share that with my granddaughter, I hug her, and she is always laughing with me. My son is always laughing. I have contact with God and with her, and it’s very beautiful.

Babaji: Very nice. So you have gotten the result of chanting the Holy Name. This is the happiness that comes from spiritual realization; it cannot be matched by any other thing. Once we get this, we feel like “This is it. There is nothing better, nothing more beautiful.” Just like most people are motivated by the seduction of the beauty of the material world. So they’re working so hard, suffering very much, exposing themselves to all kinds of dangers and uncomfortable, difficult situations, because in the future they may enjoy. They may get a little taste of happiness.

But the taste of happiness that comes from the Holy Name, it defeats all that material enjoyment, and without doing anything, without going anywhere, we can experience greater happiness. Actually this is the greatest happiness in existence. All the great saints in every religion forever in the past have preached the glories of the Holy Name and love of God. So this is our aim, and all the information that we given in this seminar is just to help you to attain that. But really it comes down to your own practice. Just meeting a few times is not enough for the most people to attain love of God.

So you have to make sure you practice every day. And sometimes when you don’t feel like it, that’s the time you need to chant the most; you’re making the most progress at the times when you least feel like chanting, because you are purifying the part of your mind that wants to separate from God.

Audience: My experience is, from eight days ago, I was feeling that I was losing my time, but I tried to do it first couple days of the week. What happened is that I was doing it mechanically, and when I was releasing my feelings, I had many negative thoughts which interrupted my mind. I’ve been very focused to the material life, because I lost a very good job I had. So one focus is on the material, which has many desperate moments. So I kept chanting the mantra, and each time it gets easier. What I can feel is that as the days went by, it became easier, and I felt much more peaceful. I can enjoy the day, sometimes I don’t win anything, but what I have, I can enjoy.

Babaji: That’s nice. We should be happy with whatever God provides. I think I told you the story when I retired, I went to Hawaii, camped out in the jungle, and for six months I just chanted day and night. And after six months, then God revealed Himself. So we don’t need all this elaborate stuff to be happy. All we need really is the Holy Name and love of God. But while we’re here in this world, we can dedicate ourselves to His service and be happy even in this difficult situation. Any more experiences you want to share?

Audience: I was going to be robbed the other day, something made me alert, I was in the car, and the person had a cloth which had something inside to break the windows. So the car came close to me and he was looking at me and looked at him and it went back and was gone.

Babaji: Just like that? So many miracles will happen when we’re in touch with God. And as I said, many kinds of suffering that we were suppose to have because of our karma, all will be taken away. So this is a miracle. Yes miracles happen every day. We cannot understand how this body is working; we can’t understand how our consciousness is working. There is no physical explanation. The scientists have been trying for centuries now, but they can’t even create a little amoeba, they’re saying that life is some kind of combination of chemicals, but they can’t even explain how digestion takes place, or how the endocrine system is regulated.

What to speak of the function of the mind and the brain—all these things are miracles, because they transcend merely physical laws and merely physical explanations. The intelligence that’s displayed in the function of the body has to come from a source beyond human, because our best scientists can’t explain it. So every day is a miracle. The trees are growing, birds are singing. Everything is going on, and somehow even though we mess everything up, Nature retains its balance; so this is a great miracle. It’s due only to the intelligence of God.

We should start to see God’s hand in everything. That’s another result of the chanting. We start to become aware of how God is working, everywhere and in everything. So this is real intelligence, to see with spiritual vision, and then God gradually reveals everything, and we can see how things are really going on. But to do this we have to purify ourselves. Just chanting is not enough, because we’re always in contact with the material world. The danger is, we can become contaminated by it, or conditioned by it.

So many experiences every day where we assume that we are this material body. But actually we are the soul who lives in this body. So we have to be very careful to keep that point of view. So every one of you chant every day; if everyone did this, it would be a different world, a more pleasant world. So I like to talk more about problems.
