Secret Teachings of JesusMay 6, 2007: Session 1 Part 1 Babaji: It is good to see you all here. Is there anyone here who was not at the preview? Oh my goodness, half of them. Hmm, what to do? We covered a lot of material in the preview there, which is good to know. Well I tell you what, are you giving the class today? Oh you did it last week, so that means that we have as much time as we like. OK, we will go until everybody is ready to eat. We have a lot of material to cover in the course, so you’ll excuse me if sometimes we’ll have to go fast, but at any time you can ask a question. If anything is not clear, please ask a question, because if we’ll keep going, you’ll get lost. You know how that works. Our presentation this morning and any time is licensed under Creative Commons. That means that you are free to copy, share, publish, and distribute this work freely. In fact we encourage you to do that. We want these ideas to spread out in the community. So, we don’t claim any copyright. Also make derivative works, for example if you are a therapist, you can use our ideas in your work with the people, as long as you observe the following conditions:
OK. Our purpose is to create an international community of people who are strong in spirit, who are lovers of God, healthy in body, and high thinking through the secret teachings of Jesus, and the power of the holy name of God. Do you agree? Is this OK? There are some people who do not agree with that, we don’t want them here. Turn the projector off. We are going to start with a process, a guided meditation process. So, please get comfortable now. We turn the camera off now. Omar: I have been starting one of these businesses. Just to solve the problem. Babaji: Is the solution working? Omar: I don’t know. Babaji: So, how to do you feel about that? Omar: I can feel, I can leave that problem behind at this moment. Babaji: Well, that’s not what I am trying to really to get at. I want you to think about your problem now. So, you had this problem for some time? And you have tried so may things? Right? Omar: Not so many because, I think there is something about me that doesn’t let me finish things. I start very good, but I don’t finish. Babaji: So, maybe the problem you’re thinking about is actually a symptom of a deeper problem? OK, that is often the case. So if that’s true, then the solution you’ve been trying for the economic problem, is that really a solution? Omar: Yes, but then I have the other problem in which I cannot finish my project. Babaji: OK, what I am trying to get at is, you’re trying to solve the problem with this solution, but you cannot work this solution because you have this other problem. So, is the solution you are attempting really the solution to the problem? Or is there a deeper problem? Omar: I suppose that my problem is that I cannot visualize myself as a winner, because realistic program is not good enough. Babaji: OK, what I am trying to get at is, you have a problem, you tried a solution, but even after trying the solution, the problem is still there. So, is that really the solution? Omar: No. Babaji: Right. So, how would you find the solution that really works for this problem? Omar: That’s why I’m here. Babaji: Ah, bingo. That’s everybody’s story. The story he just told is everybody’s story. We go along in life trying to make the best of things. And one day we come across a problem we can’t solve. It’s probably different for everybody. But the one thing which is common is that it ruins our life. It might be that we are afraid of something. It might be that we want something that we cannot get, or it might be that we had something and we lost it. Or it could be that we can’t understand why we’re not happy. So many different types of problems, but they actually come down to three:
Three kinds of problems. But if we go even deeper, the solution for the problems is all the same. Can we go on discussing your problem even more? OK. So far we have economic problem, and then we try the usual things, learning about a business, learning about economics and so on; that doesn’t work, because there is a deeper problem, not being able to finish things. And I would be surprised that there would be even deeper problem, of being afraid to finish things. Because what if I finished it and it did not work? Is that possible? Omar: Yes. Babaji: So, what would really help? Do you need more knowledge? Is that why you’re here? Could it be there is a problem because of your karma? Maybe there is something in your karma that’s preventing you from pulling in more money. Actually if you look all of these different kinds of problems, they begin from the fact that we think, “I am this body.” Because we think that we are this body, we become entangled in the karma, the cause-and-effect network of our own activities. Because whenever we act, we act for ourself, thinking “I need this, I must have that;” and because of that, every time we act, we create unwanted consequences. For example, you have a problem: you need more money. So you start working on economic development. But for some unknown reason, you cannot make that work. Maybe you can’t finish things, maybe it’s because of something else. But underneath all of that is your karma. Because of making so many activities for our own benefit, we actually block off benefits that could come, because we are limiting our activities to ourselves. When we understand, “We are not this body. I am this spirit soul within the body.” This is the key to overcome all problems. This is the solution for every problem, even the problem of death, because the spirit soul never dies. We’ve all heard these things, but how to apply it practically in our life? That’s the secret, that’s the difference between ordinary religion and philosophy, and the Esoteric Teaching. What we are doing here is Esoteric Teaching. It’s practical, it’s grounded, yet it is expression of the highest philosophy, a greater theological understanding of the meaning of the self and God. So what we need is not faith, although faith is a good thing, good quality, but we need more than faith. We need knowledge of spiritual things, which we can apply. It’s practical, it’s real. For example, if we look in the Bible, Jesus uses the word soul. For example, “It is better for the man to lose the entire world, than to lose his immortal soul.” And there are many, many quotes like that in the Bible. But what is the soul? Where is that described in the Bible? Where is the definition of the word soul? And what is the meaning of soul in our everyday life? These questions are not answered in religion. Philosophy and theology give us only speculations. The problem is [that] human beings cannot directly understand spiritual things. Therefore we have to rely on authority. And that authority has to be on a higher level than on the human level. So we look to the scriptures. But if that knowledge is not there in the scriptures, then what do we do? We have no choice but to speculate. And this is the whole history of Western civilization, because the knowledge was not there. We have simply speculated. “I think that maybe caused biologic reason according by what we observe, which is not very much. I think the soul is sort of kind, hmm, I don’t really know.” So, we are stuck with this speculation. It is not very satisfying, is it? I mean let’s admit it, the cultural background that we have is not very rich when it comes to the soul, or any spiritual knowledge. Instead we have a science which is based on sense perception. If I take something and I drop it, it falls down, and if I drop it again, it still falls down. What do you know? I just did a scientific experiment. In fact, every time I try this experiment, I get the same answer. When I drop something, it falls down. So why is this scientific? Can anybody tell me? What is the difference between ordinary knowledge and scientific knowledge? Audience: Because it’s proved, we can see that it’s happening. Babaji: OK, But how about if I am doing an experiment on something that nobody else can see? Like my feelings, consciousness, my thinking, reason, intuition. I know what’s going on in my consciousness, but without being a mind reader I have no idea what’s going on in other people’s consciousness. And we are not very good at mind reading, because we are stuck in these material bodies, using our material senses. Yet there is a whole class of phenomena associated with the soul that are not visible to the material senses, except within our own self. So, are these experiences subject to scientific verification? Audience: No, because they follow a scientific method, and this is not a scientific. Babaji: Well, wait a minute; let’s suppose I have an experiment, instructions for an experiment with my mind, like we just went through a process in the mind. OK, we went on a beach, and looked at our thoughts, and we noticed how we feel about it. So Omar was kind enough to describe how he is feeling, but we all had feelings, didn’t we? Does anybody not have any feelings? You shouldn’t be here; you should be in a hospital, because it’s natural to have feelings. But I can’t know what your feelings are, unless you tell me. Isn’t it? But I can say, “If you follow these instructions, you will have some feelings;” and if you follow those instructions, then you get some feelings, like we all just experienced. |
