Secret Teachings of JesusPreview 2 Part 2, April 29, 2007TranscriptionBabaji: Where is God’s name? Where is the name of the Father? You know the name of the Son. Secrets, more secrets, we want to give those secrets to everybody. That’s why we have this seminar. Ok, so we don’t have much time. So, I am going to briefly describe you will learn in this seminar, and then we will have questions. So, first of all we are going to learn the Holy Name, and how chant the Holy Name. Then we are going to learn about the qualifications of the spiritual teacher. In other words, on how to recognize a real Guru. We’re also going to learn about the three modes of material nature, and the laws of karma. Karma is much more complex then people would think. I’ve heard the law of Karma is described as, “what comes around comes around.” That’s not a very good explanation. We talk about ‘good karma’ and ‘bad karma,’ but whose idea of good and bad? Actually there are objective, universal standards for activities and for their results. The three modes are ignorance, passion, and goodness. When we act in ignorance, we will get a result in ignorance, similarly passion and goodness. So, ignorance and passion degrade our consciousness. They cover over our consciousness, but goodness purifies our consciousness, and enables us to attain spiritual knowledge. That’s why all negligence has deferred us, like we shall not kill; we shall not steal, and so on. What are the bases of morality? The objective basis of morality is the standard of goodness, because by acting in goodness, we advance our consciousness, we clean our hearts, and we become eligible for liberation. This is why there are different principles in spiritual life. It’s not just anything we want believe in, something that sounds good. It has to have a scientific basis. So, the scientific basis of all religious principles is that by acting in goodness, we elevate our consciousness. I will give you an example: if we just lay around and don’t do anything, that’s ignorance. On the other hand, if we are very active, but only for material goals, that’s passion. But if we act in a regulated way to do spiritual work, that’s in the mode of goodness. So, it’s very clear that inaction and material action don’t give us any advancement. But action which is regulated, which is pure according to the rules of the scriptures, and which is oriented towards spiritual goals, is elevating. So, we teach in a very detailed way, how to follow in the mode of goodness. Everything has these three modes. For example colors: dark colors, muddy colors, these are in the mode of darkness, ignorance. Very bright colors, bold patterns and primary colors, are in the mode of passion. Light colors are in the mode of goodness. So, we often see that spiritual people are wearing light or white clothes, because these influence our consciousness toward the mode of goodness. Like the people in the motorcycle gangs, wear black leather clothes, because they are in the mode of ignorance. Always intoxicated, criminal activities. So, the type of clothes the person wears influences their consciousness towards some mode I mentioned. But our goal is to transcend all the modes of nature and attain spiritual consciousness. That is done by cultivating the mode of goodness. So, we have many many factors in life that contribute to our consciousness. We want to fill the contents of our consciousness numerous. So, we have a certain way of eating, a certain way of dressing, a certain way of worship, and studying, a certain kind of music, and so on. That’s the path of spiritual life. But again, because of lack of knowledge, most people don’t know these things. They think, “If I change the way of thinking, I can change my consciousness.” But no, because thinking is only one sense. We have so many senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell and so on. So, we have to give all these senses influences in the mode of goodness, to overcome the influence of ignorance and passion in the society, and actually change our consciousness to spiritual state. This is the science of consciousness, the science of spiritual life. It’s not just about belief, it’s about actually changing our consciousness. Just like if you go to a laboratory, and you know the rules of chemistry. You can take some chemicals and mix them together, and get a certain result. Similarly, if we know the laws of consciousness, we can influence our consciousness in the way that we desire. But who can explain the laws of consciousness? Where is this knowledge found? Another secret. This is all explained in the Vedas. So, actually people from India know more about Jesus Christ than the people in the west. Any kid on the street in India knows that Jesus stayed there for many years, and toured all over India. He was accepted as a great teacher. Why don’t we have that knowledge in the West? Well it’s a secret; but we didn’t make it a secret. Who made it a secret? The people who founded this civilization. Why? They want the people to be easier to control. It’s not easy to control people who are powerful. So, we want all of you to become powerful. We want you to have the tools to actually realize your original spiritual nature, your original spiritual consciousness. And that’s what we are covering here. Are there any questions? Audience: What transforms does not kill, so we are energy. This is a path of revolution of human being. Babaji: What is the difference between matter and spirit? Audience: Material means, we have a body and karma, and spiritual is the divine essence. Babaji: But what is the functional difference between matter and spirit? Audience: In matter we have free will, because we have all attributes, material attributes of the spirit. We are created of the spirit, thought feeling and will. To realize what we want is the spiritual progress we adapt. Babaji: Well, you mentioned everything, except what I asked for. Matter is temporary, spirit is eternal. Matter is dull, spirit is conscious. Matter is impersonal, spirit is personal. Matter is just individual and corporate, in other words, all this matter is not life, where the spirit is life. So, wherever we see life, we see all of these symptoms: consciousness, personality, individuality, mind, thought, will, desire, emotion, initiative, creativity, and so many more. When the soul is present in the body, all these symptoms are present. When the soul leaves the body, all these symptoms disappear at the same time. So, consciousness is the principal symptom of the soul. Think about it: without consciousness, nothing else matters. If you are unconsciousness, then everything stops. You cannot think about anything, you cannot do anything, you cannot have anything. So, consciousness is really the main difference between matter and spirit, and because spirit is eternal, the spiritual qualities are also eternal. But when we project these qualities in matter, they become covered by material quality. Or I should say, reflected in material qualities. So, instead of understanding our eternal spiritual life, we conceive our identity in terms of this body: “I’m a man, I’m a woman, I’m young, I’m old, I’m rich, I’m poor, I’m smart, I’m stupid, I’m American, I’m Mexican, I’m sick, I’m healthy,” these are all material qualities. As long as we conceive ourselves in terms of these material qualities, we’re stuck in this material world. So, the purpose of spiritual methods is to transfer our sense of identity from material qualities to spiritual qualities, from temporary qualities to eternal qualities. But the problem is, because all the spiritual knowledge is being kept secret, we don’t know what spiritual qualities are. Like for example the Name of God. Where is this name given? Well, in the Vedas there are thousands of names of God. I translated one book, called The Thousand Names of God, but there are many books like that. Thousands and thousands of names of God, attributes of God, activities of God. All this knowledge is there. So, by meditating on these names, activities and qualities of God, we can transfer our consciousness from material to spiritual. It’s very simple, but we have to have the knowledge. Right now our knowledge is very confused. So, by studying Vedas, we get the complete knowledge. And scientific, and it’s not confused, it’s systematic. Any more questions? Audience: Will we know the name of God in the course? Babaji: Oh, it’s easy, I can teach you in one minute. Repeat after me: om namo bhagavate vasudevaya, there: om namo bhagavate vasudevaya. This is known as the twelve-syllable mantra, dvadasaksara-mantra. |
